Well I am back. It’s a while since I posted anything on my website.

So it’s sunny outside and I think I may go out in the garden and mow my lawn so this will be a small blog.

I just thought I would have a go at making a rag doll that would be perfect for a little girls birthday cake. It’s around 5 inches in height and took around 4 hours to create.

Rag doll cake topper suitable for a little girls cake

Designed and created by Copper Top Cakes

This cute little rag doll is made entirely of modelling paste. I first started with the legs then attached the feet. Putting a stitch effect around the booties to emphasize that is a rag doll made of fabric.

I used a lollipop stick to hold the body to the top of the legs and hold the body up straight.

Using embossed rolling pins I then dressed the model body with a pretty skirt and worked upwards towards the shoulders.

Just getting the basics down, I moved on to the arms and hands with more stitching embossing using another lollipop stick to hold the arm up (I had to prop this up for 24hrs to dry and hold).

Ideal for birthday cakes

Making the face was fun and enjoyable – just to see what I could do – I surfed the net to get an idea of what rag doll faces were attractive and put my own stamp on it.

All the pretty flowers, dots and detailing were the last job of the day.

I also am thinking of making a little boy rag dog in blue to match at some stage.

Well it’s nearly that time of year again…time to get ready for the big day and organise all the food, puddings and Christmas cakes a few weeks in advance for the big parties. I just had to make these cute little snowmen throwing snowballs at each other, having fun at Yuletide and perched on top of some yummy mini fruit cakes.

These unique hand-made snowmen have their hats and scarves hand-painted in edible gold to match their gold buttons and the gold snowflakes. They will look great on any festive table.

I am in training to be a demonstrator for the British Sugar Guild and recently I demonstrated my cake inspired by Maria Theresa’s Dress of the Austrian Royal family at my local branch.

Last year I visited the Hofburg palace in Innsbruck, Austria and was so amazed by it I bought a book about it. The book told the story of Maria Theresa and what she achieved at the palace in the 18th century.  She had many beautiful dresses and there was an exquisite painting of her in one which I chose to inspire this fabulous cake.

I wanted to create a bejewelled cake in extravagent golds and silver and covered in pearls. The side of the cake was designed to reflect the dress bodice and was first covered in edible lace then painted in gold and silver.

Each pearl was hand crafted and coated in a special pearlescent edible powder mixed with dipping solution and others in red or silver. I made a cape for the back of the cake by starting with a red embossed panel painted in gold, and accentuated with gold buttons.

This cake could  be for any special event including silver and gold wedding anniversaries, in fact it could be made into an amazing wedding cake of several tiers that would look fabulous stood on the wedding table.

This pretty pink handbag cake was designed for a special girls 16th birthday party.

A sponge cake was carved into the handbag shape and then covered in pink icing. A pin wheel was used to recreate a decorative stitching pattern along the edges and sides of the bag.

I made a mould of some different buttons to make icing buttons to decorate the front and back of the cake. I also added some hand made flowers to the front for good measure.

The base is also icing and patterned to look like fabric. It is finished off with a lovely font saying ‘Happy 16th Birthday Abbie’.
